Liver Tumor Removed Using Laparoscopic Procedure at White Plains Hospital
Surgeon Rafik El Sabrout, MD, PhD, FACS, FRCS(G), successfully performed a laparoscopic removal of a liver tumor at White Plains Hospital on April 16th as part of a multi-disciplinary team. This marks the first time a surgeon has removed this type of tumor using a fully laparoscopic procedure at White Plains Hospital. Laparoscopic surgery is a minimally invasive procedure that uses a thin tube to make small, precise incisions.
White Plains Hospital Announces Larry Smith as Chairman of the Board
White Plains Hospital is pleased to announce the appointment of Laurence R. Smith as the new Chairman of the Board of Directors. Mr. Smith was approved as the Board Chair at the White Plains Hospital’s Annual Board Meeting on April 27, 2015. He succeeds J. Michael Divney, who served as Board Chair since 2010.

White Plains Hospital President Susan Fox is now both the Hospital’s President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective today, announced Laurence Smith, Chairman of the Hospital’s Board of Directors. Fox succeeds Jon B. Schandler, who retired as CEO on April 30, after 38 years of service to the institution.

The Seizure Diagnostic Center at White Plains Hospital has once again been recognized as a Level 4 Epilepsy Center by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC). Level 4 epilepsy centers have the professional expertise and facilities to provide the highest-level medical and surgical evaluation and treatment for patients with complex epilepsy.

White Plains Hospital Named NICHE Exemplar Hospital
White Plains Hospital has been recognized once again for its commitment to the quality care of older adults by the NICHE (Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders) program. NICHE is the premier designation indicating a hospital’s commitment to excellence in the care of patients 65 years and older. White Plains Hospital originally received the designation in 2012, and is one of only two hospitals in Westchester to receive NICHE Exemplar status. Exemplar status recognizes White Plains Hospital’s ongoing, high-level dedication to geriatric care.

White Plains Hospital is presenting a new series of community education events entitled “Take Charge of Your Health.” Two events are planned for April 2015 in Scarsdale and Pelham, with additional topics and locations to be announced in the near future. “Sorting Through the Headlines: Learning the Facts about Cancer” takes place on April 22nd at the Scarsdale Public Library and “Breast Cancer Risk Reduction and Updated Approach for Breast Cancer Screening” will take place on April 23rd at Pelham Public Library.
Longstanding Radiology Group Aligns with White Plains Hospital
White Plains Radiology Associates, PC has signed an agreement to be in full and exclusive alignment with White Plains Hospital as of April 1st. Approximately 60 board-certified radiologists, technicians and other staff are part of the group, which offers advanced imaging services to Westchester County residents under the direction of Drs. Paul Khoury and Andre Khoury. The group, in operation since the mid 1980’s, will now be known as White Plains Hospital Radiology and will continue to provide a wide range of imaging services, including CT scans, PET scans, ultrasounds, x-rays, mammograms and MRIs.
