WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (September 6, 2019) — Nearly 20 million Americans have a thyroid condition, and all too often symptoms go unaddressed. In an effort to educate and inform the community on the warning signs of thyroid disorders, White Plains Hospital will be hosting a free lecture and dinner series on Thursday, September 12, 2019 at 6:00pm at the White Plains Hospital Center for Cancer Care.
The event, “The Lowdown on Thyroid Slowdown,” will feature Dr. Stacie Kahan and Dr. Kay Lovig, two endocrine experts, discussing common symptoms relating to thyroid disorders and how to take the first step toward diagnosis and treatment.
The thyroid is a butterfly shaped gland located in the front of the neck. It secretes hormones that regulate a person’s energy level and body warmth and keeps organs and muscles working as they should. Drs. Kahan and Lovig will discuss how any irregularity in the thyroid can result in a number of symptoms ranging from depression, weight gain, fatigue, and distraction, to anxiety and a state of restlessness.
“Well Aware: The Lowdown on Thyroid Slowdown” is the latest in White Plains Hospital’s Well Aware interactive lecture and dinner series. These free events offer the community access to frontline experts in health care and medical research, where they can ask questions and learn about the latest issues impacting their health.
