White Plains Hospital Scores a Perfect 10 for Patient Safety

November 14, 2023

White Plains, N.Y., November 14, 2023 – For the 10th consecutive time, White Plains Hospital has received an “A” from healthcare watchdog the Leapfrog Group in its Fall 2023 Hospital Safety Grades for its continued excellence in providing safe, expert care to its patients. The Hospital is one of only 16 hospitals in New York state to receive the highest possible rating during this period.

White Plains Hospital has received an “A” each period since the beginning of 2019, making it the only hospital in Westchester County and the Hudson Valley, and one of only three hospitals in New York, to earn this top grade 10 consecutive times.

“Quality and safety of care are the most important measures for patients and families when evaluating healthcare institutions and we could not be more pleased to have received our 10th consecutive ‘A’ Safety Grade from the Leapfrog Group,” said Dr. Rafael E. Torres, Chief Quality Officer at White Plains Hospital. “This achievement emphasizes how we remain one of the safest hospitals in the country, an honor that was reinforced earlier this year when the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services awarded White Plains Hospital with its second consecutive 5-star quality rating. We are well positioned to continue this trend for the years to come.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harm to patients. The Leapfrog Group assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to hospitals across the country based on over 30 national performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.
