White Plains Hospital Nationally Recognized by Healthgrades as One of America's 100 Best Hospitals for Coronary Intervention

December 1, 2023

White Plains, N.Y., December 1, 2023 - White Plains Hospital has been recognized as one of the 100 Best Hospitals for Coronary Intervention, an honor that places it among the top 5% in the nation for coronary interventional procedures, according to new research released by Healthgrades. Additionally, Healthgrades awarded White Plains Hospital with five-star ratings for coronary interventional procedures as well as for treatment of heart attacks.

Coronary interventions are minimally invasive procedures that use flexible, hollow tubes (catheters) to access the heart's blood vessels through a small incision in the wrist, arm, neck or groin. These procedures are used to open blocked arteries, measure the pressure in heart chambers, or obtain a heart tissue sample. The alternative to these interventional cardiac procedures is open-heart surgery, an advanced service that White Plains Hospital launched in 2021.

In 2024, the Hospital will introduce its Kleinman AFib Center, featuring a third cardiac catheterization lab to support its interventional cardiac electrophysiology program, which will feature advanced treatment for a variety of heart conditions.

“We are extremely proud of these latest accomplishments, which further illustrate the dedication and hard work that our staff puts in to provide such exceptional advanced cardiac care to the communities that we serve,” said Dr. Michael Palumbo, Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer at White Plains Hospital.

Healthgrades evaluates hospitals solely on clinical outcomes: risk-adjusted mortality and complications. By focusing on what matters most – patient outcomes – Healthgrades ratings provide critical feedback for both patients and hospitals. By offering easy access to objective performance measures, Healthgrades gives consumers the information they need to find a hospital that excels in providing the care they need. The 2024 hospital assessment evaluated patient mortality and complication rates for 35 common conditions and procedures at approximately 4,500 hospitals nationwide to identify the top performers.

“Healthgrades congratulates White Plains Hospital for being a national leader and demonstrating a deep commitment to providing high quality care to all patients,” said Brad Bowman, MD, Chief Medical Officer and Head of Data Science at Healthgrades. “Your dedication, expertise, and tireless efforts have not only set you apart but have also positively impacted the lives of countless patients.”

In March 2023, Healthgrades awarded White Plains Hospital with the Outstanding Patient Experience Award for the eighth time. This honor placed White Plains Hospital among the top 10% of hospitals nationwide for patient experience, making it one of just eight hospitals in the state to receive the honor this year.
