White Plains, N.Y., January 12, 2026 – White Plains Hospital announced today that it has been named a Top General Hospital by national nonprofit watchdog The Leapfrog Group for the fifth time. The Hospital is one of just 52 general hospitals nationwide, and one of only two in New York, to receive this prestigious honor.
The award is one of the most competitive honors hospitals and surgery centers in the United States can receive for their commitment to safety and quality. Dr. Michael Palumbo, Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of White Plains Hospital, accepted the award during Leapfrog’s 2025 Annual Meeting and Awards Dinner, held Dec. 15 at the Gaylord National Harbor in National Harbor, MD.
“It is a great honor for White Plains Hospital to be again counted among the top hospitals in the U.S.,” said Dr. Palumbo. “We share this recognition with the caregivers, patients, and community who inspire our work every day.”
Over 2,400 hospitals were considered for Top Hospital awards, which include general, children’s, rural, and teaching hospitals. To qualify for the distinction, hospitals must rank top among peers on the Leapfrog Hospital Survey, which assesses hospital performance on the highest standards for quality and patient safety, and achieve top performance in their category. 14th “A” Safety Grade
White Plains Hospital also has earned its 14th consecutive “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group. The Hospital has received an “A” rating each six-month period since the beginning of 2019 and is the only hospital in the Hudson Valley—as well as one of just four hospitals in New York—to receive this top grade at least 14 straight times.
Leapfrog assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 measures of errors, accidents, injuries, and infections, as well as the systems that hospitals have in place to prevent them. Nationally renowned for the high quality of its care, White Plains Hospital has been the recipient of several quality awards recently, including its fourth straight five-star quality rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) — the highest distinction offered by the federal agency.
“To be consistently recognized as one of the safest hospitals in the country is a testament to the exceptional work of our entire team,” said Dr. Rafael E. Torres, Chief Quality Officer at White Plains Hospital. “This latest ‘A’ reflects our unwavering focus on quality and safety and reinforces our role as a leader in defining best practices in patient care.”
