White Plains Hospital Named a 2026 Leader in Orthopedic Services by Healthgrades

November 10, 2025

Receives Highest 5-Star Ratings for Total Knee, Total Hip Replacement Procedures

White Plains, N.Y., November 10, 2025 – The White Plains Hospital Center for Orthopedic & Spine Surgery has received 5-star ratings – the highest available – for its total knee replacement and total knee replacement procedures from Healthgrades, the #1 site Americans use when searching for a doctor or hospital.

Each year, Healthgrades evaluates risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates for over 30 common conditions and procedures at approximately 4,500 hospitals nationwide to identify the top hospitals in key specialty areas.

To be considered for an award in joint replacement, a hospital’s knee and hip replacement procedures are evaluated on a volume-weighted average for those procedures and are then categorized into one of three performance categories (“better than expected,” 5 stars; “as expected,” 3 stars) or “worse than expected,” 1 star). According to an example provided by Healthgrades, a patient having a total knee replacement procedure at a 5-star hospital has an 80% lower risk of experiencing a complication while in the hospital than if treated in hospitals with one star.

“We are proud to receive these high marks for our orthopedic services,” said Dr. Andrew M. Casden, Chief of Orthopedic Surgery and Spine Surgery at White Plains Hospital. “The primary goal of our Joint Preservation and Replacement Program is to maintain a consistent dedication to providing exceptional care through a team approach to achieve the best possible outcome for our patients.”

White Plains Hospital's Joint Preservation and Replacement Program is among the most comprehensive in the region, offering the full complement of surgical and nonsurgical treatment options to help patients with joint pain return to an active, healthy lifestyle as quickly as possible.

Total knee replacement options include the use of such state-of-the-art equipment as the robotic Mako® arthroplasty system, which allows surgeons to replace the diseased portion of the knee while sparing the surrounding healthy bone and ligaments – leading to fewer postsurgical complications and a shorter recovery time.

For those needing hip surgery, the Hospital’s options include a variety of techniques, including specialized approaches like the anterior approach to hip replacement, which can offer to qualifying patients a less invasive and painful choice that often equates to a faster return to normal pain-free activities.

In addition to the Healthgrades honors, earlier this year the White Plains Hospital Center for Orthopedic & Spine Surgery received joint replacement and spine surgery certification from The Joint Commission, signifying that the Hospital has met rigorous standards for its joint replacement program and demonstrating a high level of quality and safety for hip and knee surgery patients.

“Healthgrades’ specialty awards identify the nation’s top-performing hospitals in key service areas, helping consumers find high quality care tailored to their specific needs,” added Alana Biggers, MD, MPH, medical advisor at Healthgrades. “We’re proud to recognize White Plains Hospital for its consistently superior outcomes in its total knee and total hip replacement procedures.”
