White Plains Hospital Earns an “A” in Patient Safety From Healthcare Watchdog Group

May 17, 2019

WHITE PLAINS, NY (May 17, 2019) – White Plains Hospital has earned an “A” from the healthcare watchdog the Leapfrog Group in its Spring 2019 Hospital Safety Grades. The Hospital was the only hospital in Westchester County to earn the top rating.

The Hospital’s work on decreasing infections and hospital acquired conditions and complications, such as clostridium difficile (or c. diff) and ventilator-associated pneumonia, as well as reduced falls and injuries coupled with consistent improvement in patient experience, is reflected in the rating. Also this month, for the fourth time, White Plains Hospital received an Outstanding Patient Experience Award in 2019 from Healthgrades, based on a survey of patient experiences in the Hospital.

“We are proud to be consistently recognized for best practices and exceptional care,” said White Plains Hospital President and CEO Susan Fox. “Our patients trust us to keep them safe and well. Clearly we deliver, and everyone is recognizing that.”

The Leapfrog grade scores hospitals on how well they protect patients from errors, injuries, accidents and infections – all of which increases your chance of dying. Researchers assessed more than 2,600 hospitals receiving Hospital Safety Grades and found that when compared to “A” hospitals, “patients at B hospitals face a 35 percent greater risk of death, and C hospitals on average face an 88 percent greater risk of avoidable death. ”An estimated 160,000 lives are lost every year from avoidable medical errors that are accounted for in the Leapfrog grade.
