Annual Ted E. Bear Hospital Event at White Plains Hospital Brings Halloween Fun and Health Education Together for Local Children

On Saturday, October 27^th, White Plains Hospital hosted more than just patients and visitors.  They opened their doors to young ghosts, goblins, princesses, and superheroes – for the 2018 Ted E. Bear Hospital fair. Approximately 200 children – many wearing Halloween costumes – along with their parents, attended this year’s event to have their favorite teddy bears, dolls and stuffed animals treated for various “boo-boos” by the Hospital’s expert staff. 
 
The fair, which has been held annually at the Hospital for more than a decade, provides education on healthy behaviors for children, and orients them to the Hospital environment so they are not fearful when needing treatment or visiting a loved one.
 
“It’s become a tradition at White Plains Hospital around this time of year to welcome the youngest members of our community for a tour of our facilities and to introduce them to many of our exceptional staff members,” said Dawn French, Senior Vice President for Marketing and Community Relations. 
 
During the tour, the children visited several areas in the Hospital, including the Emergency Department and pediatric unit. Visitors also learned about bike helmet safety from Burke Rehabilitation Hospital staff and climbed inside a White Plains Fire Department truck and Scarsdale Volunteer Ambulance Corps ambulance. As it was just a few days before Halloween, each attendee left with their very own trick or treat bag, coloring books, healthy snacks, and yes –  just a few pieces of candy.
