White Plains, N.Y. (July 1, 2019) – White Plains Hospital is pleased to welcome Abraham Mittelman, MD to its Physician Associates Division. Dr. Mittelman brings an impressive background and more than four decades of clinical, academic and research experience to the Hospital’s Center for Cancer Care.
Dr. Mittelman earned his medical degree from Mt. Sinai School of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency at State University of NY Health Science Center, Brooklyn, and his internship at Elmhurst Hospital Center, Queens. Dr. Mittelman completed a fellowship in oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in July 1983.
He comes to White Plains Hospital from the Northwell Health System’s Northern Westchester Hospital and Phelps Memorial Hospital, where he is an Attending Physician and member of the Cancer Committees at both hospitals. Other recent positions include Adjunct Physician at Greenwich Hospital, Associate Professor in Microbiology and Immunology at New York Medical College, Valhalla, and an Associate Attending in Medical Oncology at New York Medical College/Westchester Medical Center.
Through numerous teaching hospital appointments and as the lead researcher of hundreds of clinical trials, Dr. Mittelman has collectively authored or co-authored close to 400 peer-reviewed manuscripts, abstracts and book chapters. The bulk of his research has focused on new cancer treatment modalities, including emerging medications and how to stimulate the immune system to attack cancer, including breast cancer and malignant melanoma.
Dr. Mittelman is a member of the Board of Directors of the New York Metropolitan Breast Cancer Group and a President’s Member of the New York State Society of Hematologists and Oncologists, where he also served as President for two years. He holds professional memberships in the American Society of Internal Medicine, American Association for Cancer Research, American Society for Clinical Oncology and the American College of Physicians.
