A Light, Antioxidant-Rich Alcohol-Free Drink
As a dietitian, I’m often asked for festive drink options that feel special without adding excess sugar or alcohol. This sparkling cranberry blueberry mocktail checks all the boxes. It’s refreshing, lightly tart, naturally vibrant in color, and made with simple ingredients that offer nutritional benefits.
Berries and cranberry juice provide antioxidants – particularly anthocyanins, the plant compounds that give them their deep red and blue hues. Choosing a sugar-free or juice-sweetened cranberry option helps keep added sugars in check, and using seltzer or mineral water adds satisfying fizz without extra calories. And of course, skipping alcohol altogether supports overall health, as current research suggests that no amount of alcohol is beneficial.
Whether you’re hosting, celebrating, or just want an elevated everyday beverage, this mocktail is a nourishing and delicious choice.
Ingredients
- 3.5 oz seltzer or mineral water
- 1.5 oz cranberry cocktail*
- 1 Tbsp muddled (crushed) blueberries
- 1 sprig fresh rosemary, sage, or thyme
*You can use a sugar-free cranberry cocktail or cranberry juice sweetened with juice only to reduce added sugar.
Instructions
- Muddle the berries: In a glass, gently crush the blueberries to release their juices.
- Infuse the flavor: Add the cranberry juice and your herb of choice. Let the mixture sit in the refrigerator for several minutes to allow the flavors to blend.
