News 12 | White Plains Hospital’s New Weapon in the Fight Against Lung Cancer

The below are excerpts from a report that aired on News 12 Westchester on November 7, 2025.

White Plains Hospital is now using a new advanced lung cancer technology, the ION Robotic Bronchoscopy Platform, that offers a minimally invasive way to diagnose lung cancer at an earlier stage when it is more treatable.

“We take a camera and navigate (around the lung with a robotic bronchoscope) with the use of a computer software system,” explains White Plains Hospital’s Director of Thoracic Surgery Dr. Todd Weiser. “We’re able to biopsy very small lesions very accurately, and with much less risk than with other techniques.”

Doctors at the Hospital say that regular screenings are extremely important to detect lung cancer early. “It’s a deadly disease, but one that’s treatable when we find it early. The whole point of lung cancer screening is to find these things before they spread–then we can treat them accordingly.”

White Plains Hospital doctors say that if you are smoking now, there is help available so you can quit; smoking not only raises your risk for developing lung cancer, it also increases your risk of developing cardiovascular disease and other conditions.
