My Doctor Told Me to Drink Up!

Keeping your body hydrated with at least 6-8 glasses of water a day helps to improve and maintain your overall health.

By making sure you drink enough water each day, your health will improve in ways you can see and feel. Your body relies on water. If you are not giving it the hydration it requires, you will feel it. Your doctor will be able to notice it as well because of the many ways your body has of saying, “Could I trouble you for a glass of water?”

Some of these signs include:

  • Dry mouth and eyes
  • Poor cardiovascular health
  • Muscle and joint soreness
  • Irritated, dry, and flaky skin

Water keeps your body cool, your skin supple and helps cleanse your body—inside and out. It can also help your mood. A recent survey of 2,000 Americans found that those who drank at least six glasses of water a day (41%) revealed they were happier and more optimistic than those who drank less—they were also less tired during the week, and more likely to describe themselves as successful and on time for work. Previous research has shown that drinking water increases blood flow and oxygen to the brain, helping to improve concentration and thinking skills while balancing emotions.

That’s why I recommend you consume up to half a gallon, or 64 oz, each day. Carrying a reusable water bottle is a great way to track how much you’re drinking. So if you’re thirsty, skip the soda and have water.
