Day Camps are Back

Summer means fun at day camps throughout Westchester.

The benefits of children experiencing summer day camp are endless and can last a lifetime. “Children gain independence, self-confidence, learn new skills and the value of teamwork at day camp,” says Dr. Samantha Lowe, a pediatrician at White Plains Hospital Medical and Wellness in Armonk. “Camp is always valuable to a child's mental and physical health but after a year which has been highly disruptive for them, it is that much more of a gift for them to be outside and be kids. Children have been tethered to electronics for learning and socialization and it's so important that they be in an environment like camp which focuses on being outside, movement, making friends, and exploration of new activities.”

Last year, the pandemic limited the variety of activities day camps could offer, but the experience will help camps provide safe and unforgettable memories for kids this summer.
