Cold, cold go away …

Want to avoid colds? It’s simple – Just wash your hands!

OK. So nothing is ever really that simple. Colds happen. But your first, best line of defense – for you and your children – is frequent hand washing.

Here are some timely suggestions to stay healthy this winter.

  • Wash your hands. Hand washing is particularly important if you are around people who are sick.   Remember to wash the front and back of your hands.
  • Keep your space clean. Sanitize surfaces, especially those that many people come into contact with. Flu viruses can survive on hard surfaces for up to 24 hours. So use an alcohol-based cleanser on any often-touched surfaces, like phones and doorknobs.
  • If you haven’t done it yet, make sure you get your flu shot. Last year’s flu season was especially bad – in fact it was the worst in decades. Get yourself and your children vaccinated.

And if you do catch a cold, remember that when you sneeze or cough, cover your nose and mouth with your hands, a tissue or your sleeve.  Then wash again or use an alcohol based sanitizer.

And, have a happy and healthy winter.
