White Plains, N.Y. - White Plains Hospital announced today that it has been awarded the 2026 Patient Safety Excellence Award™ from Healthgrades. For the third consecutive year, White Plains Hospital once again ranked among the top 5% nationally for its commitment to safe, patient-centered care.
“We are honored to be again be recognized as one of the safest hospitals in the country,” said Dr. Rafael E. Torres, Chief Quality Officer at White Plains Hospital. “This distinction celebrates our commitment to provide high-quality, safe care at every step of our patients’ journey and we take pride in setting the national standard.”
Healthgrades evaluated approximately 4,500 hospitals and their ranking distinguishes those that excel at providing top-quality care while preventing serious safety events and complications like falls resulting in fracture and bloodstream infections during hospital stays.
"By prioritizing evidence-based safety practices, White Plains Hospital is achieving better clinical outcomes and cultivating a culture where patients come first,” said Dr. Alana Biggers, MPH, medical advisor at Healthgrades. “The data behind this year’s Patient Safety Excellence Award highlights how measurable improvements in safety can prevent thousands of complications.”
White Plains Hospital has a long history of distinction for its quality and patient safety standards and outcomes. In addition to its Healthgrades ranking in 2026, the Hospital earned its 14th consecutive “A” Hospital Safety Grade from national nonprofit watchdog The Leapfrog Group last year, making it the only hospital in the Hudson Valley – as well as one of only four hospitals in New York – to receive this top grade 14 straight times. White Plains Hospital is also the only hospital in Westchester and Fairfield Counties, as well as in the Hudson Valley, to earn a five-star quality rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) – the highest distinction offered by the federal agency – for four consecutive years.
